The New Releases Book Tag

So many books…so little time…..

Most of my physical TBR is backlist books. This is due to the fact that, over the years, I often prioritized new releases. Now, thanks to graduate school and the global pandemic, I have as many new releases on my TBR as I do older titles. While it gives me an impressive physical TBR I’m excited to tackle, it only makes my Amazon wish list longer….

This tag, The New Releases Tag, was created by Ellyn and I found it on Bookishly Rebecca

A New Release You’ve Already Read

So far, I’ve read three 2021 releases: Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire (came out in January), Shine Your Icy Crown by Amanda Lovelace (released in February), and The Body is Not an Apology by Sonya Renee Taylor (also released in February).

A New Release That’s Already Come Out But You Haven’t Read Yet

Umm…a lot…but the first to come to mind is a May release I bought last month, Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee.

A New Release You Just Found Out About

Anne of Manhattan by Brina Starler is a modern retelling of Anne of Green Gables. In this book, Anne is a graduate student and Gilbert Blythe is her writing nemesis that she’s forced to work with. How I didn’t know about this until I found it on Barnes & Noble is beyond me.

Again, there are a lot….Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare and Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli are two of the ones I own.

A New Release You’re Excited About From A New-to-You Author

At the moment, the two (because I can’t just have one) of the new releases by new-to-me authors I’m most excited for are Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim and These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan.

A New Release You Have No Interest In

Easily Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell, the third novel in a trilogy with the first book being Carry On. I do not understand why there needed to be more than one.

A New Release You Want to Pick Up Soon

For this question, I settled on Hazel Bly and the Deep Blue Sea by Ashley Herring Blake, a middle grade I currently have checked out from the library for Pride Month.

A New Release That Hasn’t Come Out Yet but You Can’t Wait to Read

It changes daily. Today, it’s Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood, a Ethiopian-inspired retelling of Jane Eyre. To make matters worse, it doesn’t come out until November.

A New Release With an Amazing Cover

The cover game is on point this year. Four of my favorites:

Blood Like Magic by Liselle Sambury

This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron

The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin

Of Princes and Promises by Sandhya Menon

Your Favorite New Release You’ve Read so Far This Year

Without a doubt, of the three, Shine Your Icy Crown by Amanda Lovelace. It’s my favorite of her works so far, too.
